Our Top Fall Trends For New York Fashion Week 2019

The runways have spoken during the opening week of New York Fashion Week 2019, and it looks like the 90s, 80s and even 70s elements have come back full force.

Although this season is devoid of big names like Fenty and Calvin Klein, it's leaving room for smaller newcomers like No Sesso to showcase their talents.

With Fashion Week underway, iconic trends from previous seasons stayed strong for the coming Fall. Nevertheless, the catwalks graced us with fresh newness too - specifically psychedelic shades, asymmetry and animal print!

See what styles are trending this New York Fashion Week!

90s Tie-Dye

Tie-Dye made a big splash on the runway last year and showed no signs of slowing down this coming autumn. Although associated with the warmer weather, uber bright and pastel iterations graced models and attendees alike from head to toe!

Animal Print

(Left to right: Anna Sui, Kate Spade New York and Marc Jacobs Fall 2019)

Whether its tiger print, zebra stripes, leopard spots or snakeskin, wearing prints inspired by wildlife continue to be a favourite trend for fashionistas. Realistic creations to subtle prints set against pastel shades have been a favourite for online and high-end stores.

Millennial Purple

(Left to right: Dries Van Noten, Christian Siriano, Michael Kors Fal 2019)

Move along millennial pink! We're swiping right for millennial purple! Associated with royalty, everything is coming up purple this fall. As seen on Tom Ford, shades from orchid, deep mauve and royal purple are all the rage for sophisticated, feminine flair. You can opt for an all-over purple look or mix and match hues!

Relaxed and Cinched Suiting

Prorenza Schoulder Fall 2019

According to high-end designers like Tom Ford and Vaquera, getting glammed up doesn't have to include wearing the most lavish sequin dress you can find. Designers are favouring cinched or relaxed suit styling in muted tones and pastels or layering a waist-cinching belt over a sleek, oversized blazer. The trend is so laid back but the perfect level of sophistication

Bright Psychedelic Colours

(From left to right: Prabal Gurung, Rachel Comey and Rodarte Fall 2019)

Tripped-out hues that scream notice me popped up aplenty on the high-end runways. Consequently, iridescent shades, to Prabal Gurung's high-impact neon colour blocking inspired an explosion of colour in the streets of New York and beyond.

Slip Into Satin

(From left to right: Christopher Kane, Versace and Giorgio Armani)

Time to break out your steamer girl because SATIN is back in a big way! We're talking about 90s Versace slip dresses in updated neon and pastel hues, to Brandon Maxwell and Christopher Kane's sleek-cut silhouettes, the silky look makes sense for any formal event or an average day at the office.

----

Asymmetrical/Slashed Necklines

(From left to right: Cushnie, Kate Spade New York and Self-Portrait)

On the fence about the off-the-shoulder dress? Say no more girl! The "slashed", asymmetrical or one-shoulder neckline is this season's compromise for New York Fashion Week 2019. The slouchier and more lopsided the better! It gives off the perfect balance of the 'put together' vibe combined with the 'I just threw it on'.

----

Prep School / Plaid and Check

From left to right: Christian Dior, Longchamp and Lacoste)

Preppy uniform alert! We spotted a ton of back to school inspiration on the fall runways- checkered blazers, sweaters, three-piece sets, gingham pants, schoolboy vibes, striped shirts and the like. As Basloe states "Checks and plaids will be everywhere this season".

Coats with Super Long Hemlines

(From left to right: Max Mara, Alberta Ferretti and Agnona)

With the cold weather around the corner, designers like Tory Burch and Max Mara presented sleek longline coats to deliver an extra layer of warmth (and sass!) this winter. These coats aren't your typical lightweight dusters.

Fashion Week graced us with dense and structured statement pieces crafted from the most beautiful woollen felt and rendered in muted tones and eye-catching prints. Apparently, a "coat with some kind of drama is a must-have for fall!" (Basloe; elle).
